Staying in the capital of Mallorca
We’re starting off with Palma de Mallorca. It’s an amazing city and the perfect base to discover the island. There are several rental companies where you can rent a car or scooter for a few days, or you can take the bus to discover some of the island. From the port, you can also go on various boat trips. In Palma de Mallorca we stayed at Isla Mallorca & Spa (4*), a great hotel at walking distance to the port and old town. Other recommended hotels are Hotel Sant Francesc (5*) and Nakar Hotel (4*).
We divided the other options into two different sides of the island: the northwest and southeast. The northwest of Mallorca is more rural and laid-back, with a focus on nature and traditional culture. In contrast, the southeast is more developed and geared towards tourism, with a focus on sun, sea, and nightlife. Both regions offer their unique charms and attractions, so the choice of which side to visit ultimately depends on your preferences and interests. We do recommend renting a car when you decide to stay in these places.
Northwest Mallorca
We stayed in Port de Soller and Port d’Alcudia. Since we didn’t really enjoy the vibe of Port d’Alcudia, we did not include it in our list below.
- Port de Soller – a charming coastal village. It offers a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere with stunning views. Just be sure to book in advance during peak tourist season to ensure availability. We stayed at Jumeirah Port Soller (5*), which is a luxury clifftop hotel. Other recommended hotels are Aimia Hotel (4*), Hotel Esplendido (4*) and Hotel Marina Soller & Wellness Spa (3*).
- Pollensa – a historic town that offers a mix of culture, nature, and beautiful beaches. It’s a popular destination for couples and families, and it has many great restaurants and cafes. Some recommended accommodations in Pollensa include Son Brull Hotel & Spa (5*) and Hotel Son Sant Jordi (4*).
- Deia – a picturesque village with stunning sea views and surrounded by mountains. It’s a popular destination for artists and writers due to its natural beauty and inspiring surroundings. Some recommended accommodations in Deia include the amazing Belmond La Residencia (5*) and Hotel Es Moli (4*).
- Bunyola – a small, cosy village, not touristy at all and a great base to explore the island. We booked a hotel here for Lore’s parents, Es Corte Vell (4*), and they enjoyed their time here very much. The hotel is small, adults only and the staff was super friendly.
East/Southeast Mallorca
- Cala Millor – a popular resort town that offers a long sandy beach with crystal clear waters. It has many bars, restaurants, and shops, making it a great destination for families and young people. Some recommended accommodations in Cala Millor include Hotel Sabina Playa (4*) and Hipotels Bahia Grande (4*).
- Portocolom – a charming fishing village that offers a relaxed and authentic atmosphere. It has a picturesque harbor, beautiful beaches, and many great restaurants. Some recommended accommodations in Portocolom include Sol I Vida Hotel (4*) and Barefoot hotel Mallorca (5*).
- Cala d’Or – a stylish and sophisticated resort town that offers several small coves with turquoise waters. It’s a popular destination for couples and families, and it has many high-end shops and restaurants. Some recommended accommodations in Cala d’Or include Inturotel Cala Esmeralda Beach Hotel & Spa (4*) and Melia Cala d’Or Boutique Hotel (5*).
