Mallorca is one of the Balearic Islands, off the coast of Spain, and it is popular for its beaches, nightlife and nature. There is plenty to do, so here are the ten best things to do in Mallorca.

- Best time: May–June and September–October. We loved travelling in May, when the weather was great and the crowds had not arrived yet.
- Getting there: Fly into Palma; a rental car is the easiest way to see the island
- Costs (May 2022): 4-star hotels with breakfast for about €80–€150 for two, a dinner with a cocktail for around €35 for two and a rental car for €70–€100 per day. Palma was our most expensive stay. For us the island felt cheaper than Belgium or France, but a bit pricier than Greece.

Palma de Mallorca
Palma is the capital of Mallorca, a big city with a lot of history and culture. You can explore the Gothic-style Palma Cathedral, take a stroll through the winding streets of the old town, or visit the contemporary art museum Es Baluard. If you like shopping, Palma has luxury boutiques and local markets. Drinking water is available at fountains all around town, which saves a lot of plastic bottles.
Sóller
Sóller is a town in the northwest of the island, known for its orange groves, beautiful buildings and small streets. You can explore the town’s historic buildings, including the 13th-century church of Sant Bartomeu and the Art Nouveau-style Banco de Sóller. Sóller is also the starting point for the Sóller Railway, a train ride through the mountains. You can also take the old wooden tram to Port de Sóller so you can discover the town and port in one day. We took the bus between Sóller and Port de Sóller instead of the famous tram, because it is much cheaper. Port de Sóller became one of our favourite places on the island, and we even detoured there for a last dinner on the way to the airport.
Deià
Deià is a very popular small village, known for its natural beauty and its artistic community. You can explore the village’s pretty streets, visit the Robert Graves Museum, or take a hike in the surrounding hills. Deià also has good restaurants, many of them serving traditional Mallorcan food. If you’re up for a swim, you can also visit Cala Deià.
Sa Calobra
Sa Calobra is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca, with blue water and big cliffs. The beach is located at the end of a winding road that runs through the mountains, making it a very scenic drive. If you get carsick easily, you can also go on a boat trip that takes you to Sa Calobra. You can also hike the Torrent de Pareis, an impressive gorge that leads to the beach. The drive down is not for people who get car sick. The road is narrow in places, but doable, and the views are insane.
Valldemosa
Valldemosa is a village in the Tramuntana Mountains, known for its old buildings and the nature around it. You can explore the village’s historic buildings, including the Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa, or take a stroll through the surrounding hills. There are good restaurants and cafes here too.
Fornalutx
Fornalutx is another village in the Tramuntana Mountains, known for its pretty streets and views. You can explore the village’s historic buildings, including the church of Sant Bartholomeu, or take a walk through the surrounding countryside. There are good restaurants and cafes here too.
The calas
Mallorca has some of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever seen. Visiting some calas should absolutely be on your itinerary! Bring water shoes, because the stones are too painful to walk on barefoot.
- Cala Llombards is a beach on the southeastern coast of Mallorca, with clear turquoise water, soft white sand and rugged cliffs. It is good for swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling.
- Calo des Moro and Cala S’Almunia are two of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca and also our absolute favourite, with clear water and great views. You can relax on the beach, take a swim in the sea, or explore the surrounding cliffs and coves. You can visit them in one day as they’re next to each other.
- Sant Vicenç is located on the northern coast of Mallorca. We were amazed by the beach and the mountain views.
Watch the sunset at Cap de Formentor
Cap de Formentor is a peninsula on the northernmost point of Mallorca. You can drive along the winding roads that hug the coastline, stopping at scenic viewpoints along the way. The lighthouse at the end of the peninsula is a popular sunset spot, and the nearby beach of Playa de Formentor is known for its clear water and white sand.
Go wine tasting
Wine tasting in Mallorca is worth doing. Mallorca has a long history of wine production and has become one of Spain’s most important wine regions. The island is home to several wineries, some of which are open for wine tastings and tours.

Explore the old town of Alcúdia
Alcúdia is an old town in the north of the island, known for its medieval walls. You can explore the town’s narrow streets and ancient buildings. With the many small shops and restaurants, Alcúdia is our favourite old town.
There is plenty more to do in Mallorca, like hiking in the mountains or trying traditional Mallorcan food. The island is also known for its nightlife, with plenty of bars and clubs.
